When I realized that my son had a drug problem, I panicked and did not know what I needed to do in order to get him the help that he needed. Of course, the first thing that the family and I had to do was to get him to admit that he had a problem so that he would willingly get help. This was probably the hardest part of the whole process. We had an intervention with him, and he immediately became upset with the whole thing and with all of us. We were, thankfully, able to get him to start listening to us, and he eventually broke down emotionally and was willing to admit that he had a problem that he needed help for. After that, we needed to find the best help for him that we possibly could, and that meant finding a place that would meet his individual needs.
After researching a bunch of places, we decided to go with gateway community services Jacksonville for a number of reasons. First of all, they provided great outpatient care, which meant that they would be able to continue working with him after he left the facility, and it also meant that he would be able to live at home while going through the program. This was something that made convincing him to get help a whole lot easier, as he did not want to leave his home for a month in order to get clean.
Thankfully, everything went well, and my son has been off drugs for years now. I am very thankful that we were able to have this intervention, and I am very glad that he got the help he needed. I am also very proud of the way he handled everything.
